Grand Central Information by spudart Grand Central Information by spudart
In the very center of the grand hall of Central Station is this kiosk with all the train schedules. According to the clock on top of the information center, it's 11:30pm (on a Saturday night). What do people do at Central Station on a late saturday night?

There's one dude how must be on his cell phone as he stood facing left and then went facing right later in the exposure. There's some lady asking for help while the attendent dude in the kiosk assisted. And then there's the bored dude on the stairs. He's probably wondering why this photographer dude (me) has my camera sitting on the ledge for so long. I'm shooting a three exposure HDR, of course!

This is part of a nine-part series of HDR photos in Grand Central station. Here are all the photos in the series:
1. Grand Central station in NYC
2. Grand Central station hallway
3. Grand Central station stairs
4. Grand Central Information
5. Grand Central currency exchange
6. Grand Central luggage rack
7. Grand Central side hall
8. Grand Central escalator
9. Grand Central tickets

I seriously am loving the composition of this. How you didnt focus on the usual, and you used the kiosk as your model. very nice

Though I'm not usually a big fan of ghosting in HDR photos (Seems to ruin the entire photo-shoot for me, when I do stuff like this).

yeah, i don't know what i think of the ghosting. Part of me finds it interesting, because it truly captures time. But then it's also weird, because we don't see people as ghosts. At least with this photo, i like how the dude in the center is pretty balanced in how he moved around.

Absolutely amazing! The mood, colors and lights all put together generate a perfect atmosphear, I simple love it. But I wonder what HDR tool did you use for merging the different exposures. Photoshop or a more specific soft? Because the HDR is really well done! Mine don't look like that :(

Hahaha... the dude on the cell and the woman walking away makes to look like ghosts. It fits great, I must say. :D

Thanks everyone! It's very nice to hear that you all are enjoying these. It makes me very glad to be back on deviantart.

I'm trying to spread these photos out so I have one photo every day. There's nine in the Grand Central series. And I've got some new cool Chicago photos waiting in the wings. Oh boy! :-D

I like this ghosts caused by HDR manipulation :)
spudart Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2007  Professional Photographer
Yeah, the HDR will sometimes remove certain parts of one exposure and replace it with part of another. But the ghosts are also created within one exposure just when someone walks by, stops for a few seconds and then walks on. Notice how none of the ghosts are seen walking, cuz they would be moving too fast for the exposure to capture them.

I second that!

I am really enjoying all the HDR too!

Keep it up! :)
